Set up XP/Vista with external HD for software

hi!! im just getting a new imac yaaaaay :D i will install bootcamp/parallels WinXp and maybe also Vista64 with only small partitions maybe 20-50 GB.... then i will install software on external HD.... but i have some questions.....??

- if i format an external HD at NTFS the whole HD not just partition that works ok with bootcamp and parallels??

- will XP or Vista64 bootcamp or parallels dislike if the HD is firewire not USB 2??i can do both but i want to use fw if i can
