I love that iCal now imports birthdays automatically from Address Book, but is there a way to set alarms for these birthdays?

When I used to enter birthdays manually into iCal I would always set a reminder for 7 days in advance so that I wouldn't forget the birthday.

Is there a way to do this now? I'd love to have each birthday automatically setup this way and then the ability to change the reminder on particular birthdays.

thanks!

No, unless there is some third party software, hopefully Apple will add this with Leopard.

I'm really surprised there isn't (or maybe there is!) a program that sits in the menu bar like gmail notifier and displays how many upcoming birthdays there are in the next 7 days. Click on it and it gives you a drop down of people and their birthdays.

It's not built in...but if you use the iCal Events widget you can at least have a semi-reminder (as long as you look at the widget) each time you access the dashboard.

Let's hope Apple adds alarms for the birthday calendar in Leopard.
