I love the ATV4, but one thing that I could do on the previous model was set my photos as a screensaver. However, on this one it doesn't seem to be possible.

Whenever I go to set the screensaver, it does give me the option of setting my photos, but all this does is brings up a window to actually browse my photos/albums, but there seems to be no way to actually set the screensaver.

I have googled a ton and can't find anyone else having this issue, so either nobody bothers doing this, or I'm just really unlucky to have this issue. Software on my ATV is obviously up to date.

Also, is it possible to play a slideshow? This does not seem to be an option either, or I can't figure out how.

"Settings/Screensaver/Type", then choose "My Photos" or "Home Sharing" and go from there -- works great!

Read my original message, while I have the option of choosing my photos, I can't actually choose anything, all it does is allow me to browse the photos

The only way I can get it to work is to have a Mac on and iTunes running. Then, from general>settings>screensaver select type>homesharing Go down to Home Sharing again and select. It should see you computer and select it. Then down to photos. You can then select iCloud or any library. Then Set as Screensaver must be pushed.

Hmm, it lets me set my home sharing photos but doesn't give me the option of iCloud library. It's strange and must be a bug as iCloud photos is actually an option on the screensaver menu, yet doesn't work. I'll have to stick with this for now, thanks!

Did you ever find anything for this? I’m having the exact same issue.

Nope, trying it with each update and still no change. It's obviously something people don't care about enough to report, which in turn means Apple hasn't fixed it.

In the end I just went into my home sharing photos and set that up as a screensaver. It works but they aren't kept up to date via iCloud

I just found a bit of a work around. You can set shared albums as screen savers. So I added a bunch of photos to a shared album and successfully set that as my screensaver via the photos app.

Yes, the only way you can use them as a slide show is to make it a shared iCloud album first (which means you end up with duplicate albums). I talked to Apple about this and they said it was because they wanted you to have immediate access to the photos being cached on your AppleTV and they could do that if they allowed your whole library to potentially be a screensaver.
