Setting iCloud to manual

go to settings > mail, contacts, calendars > advanced

then you can change icloud to fetch or manual. manual will make it so your phone only communicates with icloud when you open an app you have enabled in icloud. so if you have notes set for icloud then it will only back up when you open your notes app

i believe it will still work. but i don't use that feature so i can't be sure.
