I want to create a new Apple ID and start fresh rather than use my old account. I keep reading this will enhance performance rather than have old data clutter the new install. However, I have data in the Apple Wallet from my old Apple ID that I want to have with my new Apple ID. How do I download the data and put it in my new Apple ID?

Where in the world did you read this? That's news to me. A clean install may help, yes...but a new Apple Account won't do a darn thing. If you still want to continue on with your mission, you can email shareable passes to yourself and add them back from your emails. Non-shareable passes and cards will need to be re-added however you got them in your wallet the first time.

Also, keep in mind that if you have any apps that have been delisted from the App Store, but are still on your phone, you won't be able to get those back with a new Apple Account. You'll also lose all your purchased items (apps, music, movies, books, etc.) unless you repurchase them again or sign in with your old Apple Account (or by linking/merging your two Apple Accounts). If you have to do that, then there's really no point in getting a new Apple Account in the first place.

Lastly, do you plan on doing the same for your Mac and iPad? Those will need to be using the new Apple Account if you still want the seamless integration between them all.

Even if I do a clean install and use the old Apple ID, how do I retain the stuff from the backup and download it for a clean install? Like what you referenced, I know I can always add stuff like my membership IDs by downloading the apps and adding the IDs to my Wallet. However, I have a collection of airline boarding passes that I have collected and want to keep. So how do I do a clean install or if I want to create a new Apple ID and transfer the boarding passes over? Also, some text messages I want to transfer over from a backup for the clean install.

I actually never purchased any apps. Only a few subscriptions will be expiring soon. I appreciate your warnings, but I want to do either a clean install or create a new Apple ID. I'm really hoping I can

Creating a new Apple ID is not going to enhance your devices performance.
Ok. I will do a backup with my current Apple ID. I also want to do a clean install. How do I transfer over data like SMS and items like my old boarding pass from the backup after doing a clean install? I don't see any way to access the backup and then download specific items from the backup.

You really don’t want to create a new Apple ID.

A new Apple ID will do nothing whatsoever with respect to performance.

And the fact that you want to keep a huge swath of your data …

… you really, truly, honestly, emphatically, with extra emphasis AND IN ALL CAPS WITH MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS !!!!!!!! do not want to create a new Apple ID.

If you insist on creating a new Apple ID, you will be sad. Very, very sad. Extraordinarily sad — and we here will just say, “Well, we all told you so.”

Even your goldfish will be sad. So sad that it will die of heartbreak.

So have a heart for your poor goldfish.

And do not create a new Apple ID.

You may thank us now for the wisdom which we are bestowing upon you by not creating a new Apple ID.

Most sincerely,

b&

P.S. Do NOT create a new Apple ID! Seriously. b&

P.P.S I’m not kidding! Do not do it! I mean it! b&

Ok, I hear you, but you didn't tell me whether it's possible to transfer my data over like that or not.

If you’re not going to create a new Apple ID, why should you care?

Apple quite emphatically, and for an insane number of really important reasons, does not expect you to restore backups made with one Apple ID to a different Apple ID. Starting with, for example, security. You do not want some random person getting hold of your backups and then managing to get the data out of it.

This is just the tip of the iceberg as to why you don’t want to create a new Apple ID.

Imagine you came to a marathon runner’s forum saying that you heard that drilling holes in your arms and legs would make you more aerodynamic and therefore faster, so could anybody recommend what size drill bit to use?

You don't want to create a new Apple ID. As others have mentioned, it will do nothing to "enhance performance". And a worser case scenario, will cause even more problems: Apple might flag you as a scammer/thief/untrustworthy and basically lock you out of Wallet.

And though it's been ages since I've setup a device as new, should be able to setup a device as new and bring over Wallet pieces via existing Apple ID.

When credit, debit, or prepaid cards (including store cards) are added, they appear in a list of cards during Setup Assistant on devices that are signed in to the same iCloud account. These cards remain in this list for as long as they are active on at least one device. Cards are removed from this list after they have been removed from all devices for 7 days. This feature requires two-factor authentication to be enabled on the respective iCloud account.

Simpson's did it first. ;)
