I realize this is probably very simple, but I have no experience with external drives, so I need your help.

I just plugged this in and got a pop-up asking if I'd like to use this with time machine. I clicked no and nothing else has come up.

Here is what I want to do:
Create a file/partition, whatever it's called, to save my movies I've ripped to. Right now I have about 80GB's, but I'm sure it'll be close to 200-250 by the time I get done. I'm using this to stream to my newly bought Apple TV.

Then,:
I want to use the rest of the drive to backup my MacBook thru Time Machine (it has a 120 Internal, but when I take off the movies there should be about 30GB's used)

I'm on Leopard with a new 2.2 MacBook and obviously using USB 2.0.

Thanks a lot guys.

re. 500 GB Drive

Hi wvuwhat
Use Disc Utility located in your utilities folder to partition and format your drive. You can divide into more than one partition if needed.
Format as Mac OS extended journaled.

Terrific, thanks for the great help...I just did it and it worked flawlessly.
