Setting up a wireless connection in a dorm

I'm wondering what I would have to do to just pass on the signal wireless to a few laptops and to my xbox 360 so we would not be chained to the wall connections. I dont want a router to work in the traditional sense, but to just pass along the signal and so I can set up a little wireless network connecting me to my xbox 360 to stream video and music. Any ideas?
