Setting up an Aperture library - help needed

I just bought myself my first Mac.

I currently have all my photos on a shared folder on my WHS 2011 box. I want to import these into Aperture and manage them from Aperture but still leave them where they are on the server. I also want to leave the Aperture Library information in this folder. The reason for this is I have the folder synced with the cloud for backup as well and also accessed from other machines on the network.

How do I set this up? (For Mac beginners)

It's a little quirky at first, but you will soon get it...Start with a simple project and work your way up from there.
