Setting up automatic calendar sync

Hello,

What I want to do is sync my calendar automatically ever hour, but keep my mail and other stuff synced *only when* I enter the application, such as with manual "push".

I use Google for my mail (GMail), contacts, and calendar. I set up my google account using the GMail option (not Exchange), since I found that it works better that way.

Is this possible to do?
