I dont have my iphone yet, so i cant even TRY to do this. but I had a quick question:

If I have a .edu email with my college, can I set it up to work on my iphone? Or does it only support gmail, yahoo, etc.??

Yes. You can set up your .edu mail account.

Most likely your university will have account settings on its website that you can use.

It has nothing to do with the domain of the account. If your university (or any email provider for that matter) supports POP/IMAP then you will be able to access it from the iPhone mail app. Its just like any other email client really, with the added support for exchange, Mobileme, etc.

If you can't set up your .edu email to do POP (my school doesn't give that info) you could always set it up to forward to an account that can.
