just got my rMBP and i am trying to set up my email account

i am trying to set it up by pop3 but when i type my details its doing it by imap can't change the account type

I have a cheap email provider that provides lousy IMAP so I use their POP3 access so I know it is possible to set up POP3 in mail.app.

If you go to preferences and create a new account, you should be able to choose POP as the account type. I don't understand it switching to IMAP unless you are using the account wizard. I say simply let it create the account using the wizard but leave the account offline. Then go look at the server settings and change them to POP. Once you have it set up as POP, take the account online.
