i have been attempts to set up email addresses on my IMac,
the addresses will come from my host server.
when complete i will be able to send/ receive emails from my desktop instead of going to my host server.

with direction from my host server i put in the various ports for IMAP incoming and SMTP, unchecked SSL.
the host server says the SMTP port is to be 587 ...do not select SSL
the incoming port is 143 ...do not select SSL
they say to 'select' Automatically detect and maintain account settings & authentication is Password and do
not 'select' allow insecure authentication.
the incoming / SMTP servers are mail. MY URL.com
i took a screenshot of the 'general 'tab

problem is apple mail will not always 'save' what i click onto.
i say 'not always' because sometimes it will save... only temporarily. when i don't receive / send what was working, i look back , and the 'port' and /or the 'SSL' is not saved.

what needs to happen for this to save.

i have 8 different email addresses.
does IMac / apple mail have a limit to how many email addresses it allows?

i opened the link....read the information...it says i could mangle files on my computer if i did not know what i was doing...
i am not a gambler....not for me...thanks

thank you komatsu....
i have since contacted the 'host server' people...people who host my website.
they made recommendations ....which i followed,
now the sending /receiving on my IMac is functional but the incoming is very slow...maybe an 1/2 hour to hour later i may receive the email.
do you think slow receipt of mail is coming from the server or are there setting my IMac i need to adjust?
i have attached a screenshot of the incoming Port from this Mac.....

thanks

Normally that is not related to local email settings on you Mac OR the email client but the domain in which the
email is hosted.

For example, .me emails are notorious for going missing or getting delayed.

ya...but the host says after testing, they see no problem on their servers.
they say the slow incoming emails has to do with my IMac settings.
the host server says this is a common problem with the iMac mail client.
