hey all, my soon-to-be middle schooler is being gifted an M1 MBA (aren't grandparents the best)? she already has an iPhone and iPad (aren't parents the best?) so she's familiar with the general Apple way of working...and she's used my Macs for school stuff before too. in theory, this machine should last her until she's nearly ready for college.

I'm wondering what things to consider when setting it up for her. I imagine I'll set up an admin account for myself and a user account for her (without admin rights). Screentime and content restrictions from her iOS devices carry over to Mac OS too, I believe. Most of her school work is done via Google Suite (Chromebooks at school), but I also think she can log in via Safari and not miss a beat.

Otherwise I"ll clear the dock of everything she doesn't need or use, and probably add web app links to Google apps. I'll set up the Mac mail, calendar, tasks and notes to sync with her iOS devices. Along with the Music app too.

Anything else I"m missing?

I'll purchase AppleCare after the fact, for sure.

You have the right of it. I know I hate a cluttered dock because it’s so easy to mac lick an application I don’t want.
