Setting up Mail...Cannot Send!!!

I want to use my gmail account with Mail but I am so confused. Under preferences and account information I currently have the following

"Account Type: .Mac IMAP

Description: myname@mac.com
Email address: myname@mac.com

Incoming Mail Server: mail.mac.com

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mac.com:myname"

It also says my SMTP is offline so this might be some of my problem...how do I change this?

Does this use both my .mac account and gmail account?

go into mail and preferences > account and remove em all (with the lil minus sign at the bottom)

and start again with ur gmail account

what about my incoming and outgoing mail server?...mail.gmail.com? And should SSL be checked? How do I change the SMTP from "offline"? I'm new at this mac thing so please bare with me!! Thanks

im fairly sure it should just do it all for you automatically

didnt i tell you before how to set up the outgoing mail server

Have a look at this support document. It's for Mail 2.0, but 3.0 should be similar.
