Hey, I had a quick question... I've recently been meaning to get a new phone and at the same time get a new mp3 player to replace my aging ipod mini (faithfully served for the last 4 yrs). The current situation is that I'm on a family plan w/ Verizon and the new iphone even the original one really drew since I could combine both items that I carry anyway.

Here's the deal, currently I can get a corporate discount with my company for using AT&T and I really wanted to make the switch to the iphone... with one caveat, I DON'T want the DATA PLAN. Before people go bashing that I can't afford the plan, then I can't afford the phone. Here's the deal, I really don't need a data plan to constantly check email and such. I can afford it, but I feel it’s a waste of money for something I wouldn't need to use since I get good WIFI coverage for the occasional data usage.

Anyway my rant, I've been told by an AT&T store representative that I MUST HAVE a data plan associated w/ an iphone. I've been reading that user have removed their data plans. I was curious as to how, one method I've seen is converting the SIM card to use with another phone's IMEI and thus AT&T assumes you no longer have an iphone on the account. Or can you cancel the unlimited plan and get a pay as you go plan and put a WIX block on the phone (essentially removing data).

Any help would be appreciated.
