I’m considering upgrading my 1TB M4 mini to a 512GB M4 Pro. However, I’ll need an external drive for my Home Folder. I have a Thunderbolt 4/1TB SSD that I can use. I found some helpful information on how to transfer the Home Folder to an external drive. Afterward, I need to set up the new Mac mini in the same way as my current one. Once the Home Folder is moved, can I use my Time Machine backup to migrate my current setup to the new mini, with the external Home Folder just like I did with my current 1TB M4 Mac mini?

Apart from the external drive requirement, are there any other potential drawbacks I should be aware of?

no watch This video well I would basically copy everything from your home folder not migrate from Time Machine
I have watched both videos he did. I would be setting up a new Mac from a Time Machine backup. In the video about setting up a new Mac and moving the HomeFolder he briefly mentions at about 5 minutes Migrating your data from your other computer after the Home Folder is setup. Time Machine also allows you to Migrate your data from the backup.
