Hi all, longtime lurker here.

I'd appreciate some feedback on the following setup.

For a variety of reasons, I wipe my SSD and perform clean installs of macOS with some frequency. The biggest pain is having to upload my photo library from backup as it's around 400GB. With High Sierra and APFS, I should be able to create an OS volume and a media volume within the same container, which would allow for automatic resizing as I add apps and photos. I suspect that I would also be able to delete the OS volume when necessary and perform a fresh install by adding a new volume to the container while not having to erase the media volume. This would save quite a bit of transfer time and limit potential data corruption. Is there any reason that this scenario wouldn't work or would create performance issues? The OS install would come from a bootable thumb drive.

Partitioning the drive doesn't seem like an option as it wouldn't allow for automatic volume resizing.

Any advice would be appreciated.
