Settings Icon has a "1" attached

New I phone 4 finally set up but the settings icon has a "1" attached to it as if there is a new thing to look at (like the nos which come beside the email icon when you have new mail). Can't get rid of it - any ideas anyone?

it indicates that a system upgrade is available. if you are looking to JB, dont upgrade.
