Hello congrats to everyone getting the 16 today:) just wanted to know when everyone gets their new phone if you guys restore from backup of previous phone or setup as new?

I will be setting up as new. Pretty much everything I care about syncs with iCloud. I will install apps as I need them so it doesn’t install any that I no longer use. Kind of a way to declutter.

I’m thinking of starting from scratch as Apple Music keeps crashing on me. Does focus modes sync to iCloud? Or am I gonna lose them?

I set up as new. Get rid of all the junk apps I've accumulated over the year that way. If I really need it, I can always re-download it.

I set up manually as new. Takes some time to get everything back (that I actually wanted) but feels nice with less clutter and a fresher experience.

iCloud must be getting slammed. Both of my new iPhones refuse to sync with iCloud to download my photos and messages. Gonna give it a break till tomorrow.

I had issues too after a direct transfer saying they "iCloud data isn't syncing" with a button to resume syncing. Nothing worked. I'm trying from a backup now.

Gonna set it up as new and download only the apps I need the most of use the most. I will use iCloud but only for notes, files, mail, photos.

But i don’t have it yet, still on the fence

Has anybody had the experience of installing the new iPhone 17 via backup from a Mac computer?
I back up my iPhone 13 Pro in this entirety to a Studio Mac several times a month. I purchased a new iPhone 17 Pro and would refer to updated directly from my Mac. Any advice would be appreciated.

There’s some apps like Scaniverse that have no great export options so I carried over my data from one phone to the next via backup.

I personally wouldn’t unless you are absolutely sure you are good with your app data.

I’m setting up as new this years to get help get rid of all these bugs I’ve accumulated over the years
Same...my iPhone 14 Pro's battery life has been horrendous - see below. I am hoping that the new phone as well as setting up as new will lead to much improved battery life on my new iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Getting the iPhone 17 Pro Max - donno why, but my Day One iPhone 14 Pro has terrible battery life and I had to get its battery replaced and even after replacing the battery, I can only keep it for around 1/2 of the day without need to re-charge it.

That is why I am getting the iPhone 17 PM - hopefully I can keep this thing with me without constantly worrying about recharging it throughout the day.

FYI, here is my battery health on my current iPhone 14 Pro, on which I had the battery replaced at an Apple Store:

The battery was replaced just last year too and it is already down to 86%??!?!

I'll transfer everything from my iPhone 11, including the eSIMS.

If it seems buggy, then I can always start again and use the "set up as new" option. And if that looks "too new" and daunting to reconfigure how I like it, I can restore the backup again 😁

I always want my new phone to be set up just like my previous one. I transfer everything over, and have been doing so since the 3Gs! There's no accumulation of bugs. iOS keeps itself tidy as long as you keep it up to date.
