I just purchased a synology DS411j and I am looking to set it up.

I want a 2tb partition for my time machine backups and I want the balance to serve for media. How do I setup the partitions?

Once that's done I want to perform a backup for my macbook pro.

I then want to move my media which is currently on another portable HDD to the NAS. How would I do this?

Once that is complete, I want to setup all the protocols to have access to everything on my NAS from my iPad and my macbook pro from within my network and on other network.

I want to change my username and password.

I want to configure download station, audio streaming, and all the account user preferences.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

What size and how many drives have you installed?

i've installed three 2tb drives. two drives are western digital caviar green and one is a seagate green. Maybe someone could post a step by step guide to configuring the NAS. It didn't come with much paperwork.

I use a DS212j and have a 1TB drive just for TM and a 2TB drive volume 1 for everything else. I run weekly backups sans TM to an external 2TB USB drive. Critical files are also backed up into the cloud.

You could RAID the three drives and add a fourth drive just for TM.

At this time, I'm not sure how to do anything I really need some sort of manuel.
