Running a late 2015 5k imac right now. 4Ghz i7, 16Gb ram. It's getting slow for most of my work.

I use Figma for design work (primary income) and files are quite huge. They take a while to open, and I often get RAM warnings.

I use Davinci Resovle for my hobby – video editing and color grading. My camera is panasonic S1H that shoots 6k h264 files, and my imac is dying even with quarter resolution proxies. Generating optimized media takes ages, it's just not a capable machine anymore.

I am looking for a new setup. Mac + monitor, or another imac. Looks like my options are to get a m1 mini and a monitor, or a newer imac. I have a work-issued 2018 MBP and I don't like it. I have paid 4,ooo USD formy current imac when I bought it, so that's my budget for a new setup as well. Mac pro will not fit into this budget either.

I do use a clean feed for color correction, and it's a Thunderbolt 2 I/O device, so I need to somehow keep that working on whatever new system I buy.

Would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Personally I would hang on if you can for an M1x iMac, hopefully some time between March and October this year. If not I would go for one of the current 27" Intel iMacs (don't bother with the iMac Pro, as it is now long in the tooth.), as you can add more memory if you need it.
