My iPhone 6 is to arrive this Thursday. If possible, I would like to initially set it up without activating my Verizon cell service to the phone.

If the phone's screen quality, wifi functioning, etc all check out as satisfactory I would then connect it to my Verizon phone number thus deactivating my current iPhone 5.

Is the above possible?

What I did with my 6 Plus was to activate the new SIM on it with my number and then I just swapped SIMs with my 5s. :)
