The international expansion continues. Apple opened its seventh store in France this morning, this one in the major city of Lyon in the eastern part of the country. The store, located in a shopping mall in the La Part-Dieu business district, is very close to the Lyon Part-Dieu railway station, a major transportation hub.

Even though this is the 325th location to open, new store openings (NSO's in Apple parlance) are sure to draw a crowd and the Apple Store Part-Dieu is no exception. MacRumors reader Clement sent in these shots from the opening and said there was a two-hour queue to get in the store.

Apple Store Part-Dieu is number R373 according to Apple's internal store numbering system.

Consumers must sure like those free Apple T-shirts they give away at openings. I've only got two from Manhattan stores, but I could have had more. Apple is really putting on some retail pressure and yet Wall Street keeps denying that Apple stock has any revenue legs.

My sister actually sent me pictures of an apple store in Bordeaux. I'll look for the pictures on Facebook but it's right in front of Le Grand Theatre. Great location.

Apple could draw a crowd in the middle of a desert. Memo to all of Apple's competitors: This is what happens when a company makes great products that people actually want.
How do the French say it? Bon Chance, Ballmer.

I wonder if they get lines like this outside the opening of a Microsoft store?

What are they up to now, eleven stores?

Microsoft hasn't released a product that the world has been crazy over in quite some time. Apple has done it many times over the past decade or so, and the stores themselves fit that description. There are quite a few differences between the two companies, that's for sure...

Before the trolls nab me, Windows 7 may be the first product in a long time that's an exception. It totally doesn't suck in as many ways as previous versions of windows did (lol).

Most of Asia is still waiting...

I have a feeling you wont have long to wait. I can imagine them opening more stores in China, South Korea, and Japan in not too long. Easiest way to defeat the market for fake Apple products in Asia is to introduce the real thing. ;)

Why is it R373 if it's only the 325th store to open?
Did some stores get numbers but never open? Should you have said 'Apple now have 325 stores' (and have closed 48)? Or are the numbers not sequential, and it's just a cooincidence that they isn't much difference betweent them?

I don't understand the lineup thing. It's not like the products are rare or you can view them online.

The stores are numbered in the order that they were planned, roughly. Some stores take quite a while to come to fruition, never end up opening, or they simply open out of order.

The lowest number that doesn't have a store open is somewhere in the R030's.

Just stepped in for the first time today. It's a pretty big store and very pretty looking of course. I do feel bad for the independent vendors around town. There are a number of them and who knows how long they'll last.
