'Severe' VoIP Bug in iOS 4.2 Golden Master?

Toktumi, the firm behind the popular Line2 VoIP application for iOS devices, today sent an email to its customers warning them of a bug in iOS 4.2 that results in the ringer continuing to ring even after a call is answered when Line2 is running in the background. According to Toktumi, Apple's engineers are aware of the issue, which reportedly affects all VoIP applications, and have classified it as "severe".
Attention all Line2 iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users:

Please do not upgrade to iOS version 4.2.

If you upgrade to iOS 4.2 and you are running Line2 in the background, the ringer will continue to ring even after an incoming call is answered. This affects Line2 as well as all other VoIP and social calling apps. (Note: If you do not use Line2 your Toktumi service will not be effected.)

Apple Developer Support is aware of this issue and has designated its status as 'severe'. However, as of the most recent iOS beta (GMSeed build), this issue is still not resolved. We apologize for this inconvenience and will update you as soon as we get more information from Apple.

Line2 will continue to work as normal with your current operating system. We strongly encourage you not to install iOS 4.2 until Apple fixes the upgrade issue. We will send out an email update as soon as it is safe to upgrade.

Apple released a golden master version of iOS 4.2 to developers on November 1st, and a public release was expected last week. Reported issues with Wi-Fi connectivity on the iPad have been blamed for delays from Apple's original internal timeline and resulted in Apple pushing out a revised golden master build for the iPad late last week.

Well

I am sorry if I sound like a fanboy however without debug output or code sample how do we know it isn't problem with their code and they are just trying to CYA until they have a fix for their app?
 
Come on Apple

Apple is falling behind on these iOS updates, as well as all there other releases. Eveytime Apple releases something there are always issues with it. Lets get it together Apple...

I thought the same thing. And I cannot understand why they would have put this on their site.

Apple releases a candidate build out to the developer community to test it out before release to the general population.

So, publishing something that say's do not install 4.2 is simply stupid on their part, and likely to get them in trouble now. And rightfully so.
 
Skype - iOS 4.2 GM

I have iOS 4.2 GM (8C134) and I have had some serious issues answering phone calls over Skype in regards to the ringer continue to ring even after picking up.

I hope this issue gets resolved for the public release.

Anyone else also use skype and facing a similar issue/problems?

You do sound like a fanboy :D

This problem happens on Skype on my iPad running 4.2GM as well. After answering the call, the app continued to ring while I can hear the other's voice.

It is an annoying bug and I'm surprised this has not been fixed. We are already at the sixth version (3 Beta + 3 GMs) of iOS 4.2 in the last 2 months.

Yes, everybody should shut up about Apple's bugs. How about people who are installing 4.2 GM right now? Is it not an obligation for the company to let their customers know about potential problems?
 
The quality of Apple products is going down hill. iLife '11 sucks. iPhone4 has that reception issue and other problems. The Mac Pro was a bit of a disappointment. Now this? No surprise.

If you are installing beta software then you are willing to deal with software bugs.

The issue is that this software developer is publishing in a very public way a software issue in a "BETA" product.

And Apple, at this stage in the development cycle of 4.2 only needs to inform its developer community of these kinds of issues. For Apple to say something to the general population would be extremely confusing and of no use.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then I can understand, though I would really question why you would be installing non GA releases of software.
 
Push ?? Epic fail skype and Toktumi!

On a slightly differently note can anyone tell my why Skype and Toktumi do not have push notifications. Their products are essentially useless on an iPhone 3G running Ios 4.1. Epic fail, both companies especially since Whistle phone has this feature and is FREE TOO!!

So let me get this straight...

There was a big bug discovered in 4.1 that allows you to bypass the passcode lock. Now, in 4.2, there is a bug which breaks VoIP multitasking? I wonder what's in store for 4.3 :eek:

Thats why it isn't for public release.
 
I have actually noticed the same problem when using Skype. I am going to install iOS 4.2.1 tonight to see if it resolves the issue.

Will you repost with results, in regards to skype/iOS 4.2.1... To me this could/maybe indicate whether or not they (Apple) has addressed the issue.

It's not beta software.

The GM is supposed to be the finished product with all of the problems worked out.

Many people (myself included) would not use an alpha or beta release on their device, but would use the GM version. That means more people could encounter this issue - particularly as the GM is intended for eventual public consumption and as such can generally be used without an Apple Developer Account/provisioning profile.

If people have reported a bug to Apple like this and they've chosen to ignore it, that's a big deal.
