I currently have a Series 1 Apple Watch and am considering upgrading to a Series 3 without LTE. However am unsure if it will really do more for me than my current Watch to be worth the upgrade. I use my watch for;
  1. As a watch for time keeping
  2. World clock when away
  3. Seeing upcoming appointments in calendar
  4. Check weather
  5. Notifications
  6. Timer
  7. Occasionally navigation
  8. Monitor activity and occasional workout
Would the Series 3 be better for any of these from the experience of people which have already upgraded?

I wear the watch every day, but still consider it as just something nice to have, and not vital like my iPhone X or iPad Pro

well speed is a good improvement but from your usage it doesn't sound like a must have.

What do you believe you will gain from the move?
Better battery life? On a long day the Series 1 may not even last out the day.

But then as I say, I consider it a nice have, so if it does run out, it is not a disaster like if my iPhone expired (the iPhone X battery lasts a lot longer than the Watch!)

Why not just get a second charger for your work location. When or if you later upgrade you will still have a spare charger.

Apple Watch series 3 satisfies all of your needs. And they do everything faster. Better battery life also. I would recommend you to upgrade.

Why not buy the watch and give it an honest test run for 14 days? That will give you plenty of time to assess whether or not it fits your needs and or wants. If it doesn't, return it. Personal hands-on is more valid than asking strangers with various needs and bias. Keep it simple.

I am amazed that nobody pointed out the obvious answer.

It's ben shown that touching an item will cause some people to make irrational attachments and buy things they wouldn't have rationalized previously.

I think a 14 day trial is no different. Having used it for two weeks @OP may not make a rational decision and will keep it for the same above reasons.

I have a Series 3 (non-LTE) that I bought like a week ago. It's been on for 12 hours so far and it's at 87% battery right now. I did not use it for any workouts or anything today. Just basic usage, checking the time, and some push notifications. I like it, but I have never used a Series 1 to know whether it's worth the upgrade.

I can’t see the point of taking off watch part way through the day to charge. The whole point of wearing a watch is that it is always on you, even at times when you might not carry around your phone

In comparison, the Series 3 Apple Watch is much improved over the Series one. And not just in terms of the processor, but with the 50 M water resistance, much brighter display, GPS, and overall improved battery life. It's just much more refined.

Seems a very little list of value adds with not much return on the cost of the new device over what you have already to me...

I upgraded because I had the original watch and I wanted to be able to use the Kardia Band. Other than that, all my daily useage is the same as in your list. Having used it now for some weeks I can safely say that while I think the Kardia Band was worth it, my original watch did all the things on your list just fine.

That has rather been my thinking and I really posted to see if a benefit was highlighted, I had not previously appreciated.

Now if Apple at some time adds built in camera to the watch I would probably rush out to buy. Not for formal photography, but I often want to snap something at work to make quick record and that facility would be very useful to save getting out my phone ;)

On my Series 3 with GPS (no LTE), I’m typically getting 48 hours of battery life with light to medium light usage, including workouts and sleep monitoring. The “worst” battery life I’ve ever gotten is 36 hours.

Take my observations with a grain of salt, though. The Series 3 is my first Apple Watch and I’ve only had it for 10 days.
