So I have a 2011 mbp running 10.8.2. My main source of internet is tethering my phone via usb (using easytether pro). I was wondering if there was some way to utilize this connection to get internet on my ps3. I don't really care if I have to connect my mbp to ps3 with an Ethernet cable, as long as it works. Anybody have any suggestions?

Did you try sharing the Internet connection of your MBP via System Prefs?

No, I'm not sure how to do that. Is it under network prefs? Sorry I'm a long time pc user and have only had this mac for a little less than a year

Go to System Preferences (Sharing panel) and share your Internet connection. Example given below.
