Giving the macmini to the mother in law and will be purchasing two iMacs for the home office/study. Kids are getting older and generally need (want) them at the same time. Cant argue when they want to do math or history on the computer!

So with two imacs I will lose a CD drive. I'm not terribly concerned as we rarely use it but can I have one apple USB superdrive shared by both iMacs? I sure dont want to purchase two of them.

Thanks.

Yes, just enable DVD or CD Sharing in System Preferences

The wife and I share one superdrive between our rMBPs. It stays in the closet until the very rare occasion when it is needed in one machine of the other. When finished, just eject it and put it back in its box on the shelf. If it is left out, it will get dusty, scratched, and someone will end up using it as a coaster.
