I want to have a large drive that both my iMac and MacBook can access that has all of my data on it. Everything from my songs recorded in Garageband and Logic to my iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie Libraries.

Which would be reliable and have better performance?

Option 1 - Thunderbolt RAID DAS:
The first option would be for me to get a LaCie 2big and directly attach it to my iMac. It would be shared via Back to my Mac so that my MacBook could access it while I was in a different room or even offsite.

Option 2 - USB Attached to Airport Extreme:
I use an Airport extreme and could attach a USB External HDD to it and access files from there on both my iMac and Macbook.

What do you recommend?

Thank you.

The directed connect device will be a lot faster on the Thunderbolt port over any wireless.

Thank you.

When accessing that drive on my MacBook remotely, I realize that it won't be as fast as the iMac since it won't be connected directly.

But will that performance on the MacBook still be better than any NAS?
