Shared calendar doesn't include externally added events

My wife shares her calendar with me. When an event is added by an external entity to her Apple calendar, by opentable or resy for example, it does not show on my iPhone, iPad, or Mac. What setting are we missing for them to be shared?

I'm not 100% sure this is the place to ask this question, but the entry is to/by her iPhone. We each have iPads as well, and I have a MacBook. Her entries don't show on devices on my Apple account.
