I have a Macbook set up as my iTunes server (music files on the internal HD) in my basement. I have my MBP upstairs set up to Share the iTunes library on the MB. Works pretty good. But the devil is in the details.
First of all, I cannot edit any metadata from the MBP. I can pull it up and see it but everything is grayed out.
Secondly, I have a few music files on my MBP I would like to put into the library on the MB. Working through Finder I open a window for the MBP and MB. If I try and drag a file from the MBP to the MB, it tells me the file already exists would I like to stop, replace, keep both. The file does not already exist.
For Sharing I have gone to both the MB and MBP and added the home folder of each to the list of items that can be shared, permissions read/write by all.
So is there any way to use my MBP (which is my main workhorse) to add files to the iTunes library on the MB without going downstairs to the MB and doing it manually? Same thing for editing metadata, does it have to be done directly on the MB or is there a way to do it from the MBP?
Edit: just noticed that whatever I try to copy to the MB shows up but it has 0kb for a file size
