Shared messages

my wife and I have same Apple ID, and the same iPad each.
She gets all my iMessages, and vice versa.
Is there any way to stop sharing each messages ?
 
I have taken the only way out. Get separate apple IDs.
This stops some sharing but achieves the messages objective.
