This should be simple, but...
I'm trying to get an XP box on my ethernet network to recognize an HP LaserJet 5MP. Since this is Microsoft we're talking about, a wizard is invoked the moment you try to add a new printer. Unfortunately Mr. Wizard isn't doing his job. Confusingly, the wizard says if the printer isn't hooked up to a print server (it isn't) then it should be added as a local printer. When you try this, XP prompts you to select a port (parallel or serial). No option is provided for selecting a printer via ethernet. I can't add it as a network printer, either. It's not found.
Any suggestions?
