Sharing a TimeMachine disk between 10.15 and 10.11?

Anybody succesfully accomplished this?

10.11(host=usb attached local tm backup)->10.15(client) did not work for me.
I'm just wondering, id 10.11 needs AFP and 10.15 works only with SMB, then there's no point trying the other way around...
