sharing a TM drive

Hi,

I bought this 1tb external drive and it's now connected to my iMac using TM.

Is it ok, since it's got still so much space, to use it for backing up docs (music and photos) from my MBP as well ? May be the latter not even using TM, just simple copying when periodically connection the drive to the laptop.

Absolutely. I suggest creating a partition for each, though. That way you won't find yourself rudely surprised when one backup starts choking the other one out.
