Hello guys,

About a month ago, my family's PC went down, but we were able to back up our important documents on an external HD. Now I want to use this same disk to back up some of my mac documents.

When I open Disk Utility with the external HD attached, two volumes apepar for it, the first says "298.1 GB ST932032 5AS Media," and below it is "Iomega HDD." The "Iomega HDD" is formatted to use NTFS. So I would have to erase it in order to reformat it, thus loosing the information from my family's PC.

Could I partition the "298.1 GB ST....." volume without endangering my family's documents? Alternatively, I can compress the documents and copy them to my Mac, then erase the volume completely, reformat, and partition (I use NTFS-3G to allow me to read/write on the NTFS-formatted volume).

Which route would you guys suggest? Any help is greatly appreciated!
