So doing a quick search on the web and I find all kinds of posts about missing icons(even the sharing icon) in OSX prior to 10.8.2 and it says to delete a file in the Library/Caches folder.. well I guess since 10.8.2 that file is no longer there to delete..

Any ideas how I can restore my Sharing icon??

Not sure how your icon was removed from system preferences but navigate to system > library > PreferencePanes and look for SharingPref.prefPane then double click on it.

Theoretically that should put it back in system preferences.

It's not even there.. wth?!?

EDIT: Wow, odd. I had to go onto my Time Machine into my Macbook Air's backups and click it. It then told me that to use it, I have to install it! wth..

None of my backups for my MBP since I began backing up had this missing file, only my Air did. So weird.

Unfortunately I was click happy and clicked Install and didn't get a SS of anything..

I can show you screenshots of my Time Machine BU's of my Pro showing the non-existent SharingPrefs if you want.

Here you go.. Odd thing, Sharing is now appearing in System Preferences but the sharingprefs icon is not in my folder..??

After I double clicked it from my MBA backup and it asked to install, it's showing finally, and working.

I included the System Preferences at the bottom in an edit.

Some of the icons in the folder don't work, like Xsans, Ink, FibreChannel, etc..

Those would only work if you had those items.

Ink is for pads.
FibreChannel is for a FibreChannel connection. Etc.

And Xsans is for a SAN connection. Not too many of us are using that on our MBP's :)
