Hi,

I've got an iMac upstairs and a Mac Mini downstairs. My ISP provides a static IP address for my primary system, to connect to the internet.

In the past, I've just enabled internet sharing on both devices, but I've run into 3 pitfalls...

1) It never stays open for long. Sometimes hours, sometimes only 30 minutes, before the connection just closes. No warning is given, and, if you open sharing up, it will still look like it is being shared. Sometimes, stopping and starting sharing works, sometimes, the connection just can't be recreated.

2) There is no security that I can see.

3) Referring back to number one, sometimes it just won't configure, especially if I've been doing it a lot.

I've gone into the airport config, identified my primary as a network, set up a wep password, and can get my downstairs system to log on and recognize the network. BUT, I can't get on the internet.

How do I establish a simple, somewhat secure, peer-to-peer network, strictly for internet sharing, that will stay open? Most of the info I have found has been for networking Mac to PC, not for two Macs.

Thank you for your help!
