Sharing iTunes folder for Apple TV

Hi Guys,

I'm wondering if someone would be able to help - I am looking for something to run on either linux or windows which can sit on my file server and share out my itunes media folder without me having to have itunes running on a desktop or laptop.

I'm struggling to find what the best way of doing this would be.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ATV1 you can put movies/content onto it. No iTunes has to be running.

ATV2 you can't do so without having iTunes running on a computer somewhere. (If you want to stream movies) If all you want to do is Netflix, watch rented movies, you don't have to run iTunes
