Sharing iTunes library across users

I am trying to do this across 2 users on the same machine.

I have followed the instructions at - http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT1203

The original user account still works fine, I open iTunes and all the music is still there. On the new user account though, I have opened iTunes and pointed the Library to the new shared location. Nothing seems to have happened though.

Should add that I'm using Yosemite

Am I missing something out?

Yes I tried that.

I am now trying a different way.

What I want to happen is the library to be shared so that it can be added to or changed etc and it will show on both users. Reading around I don't think the above does this.

It should do. I've done it myself.

It works if you put it in the shared folder under Users.

You do not need to do this !

Did you actually import the music into the iTunes Library on the new user's account ?

See the steps listed under "Listen to another user's music".

(steps 1 to 8).

I think you are correct, the two iTunes Libraries will use the same iTunes Media Folder, however a change made in one Library will not be "synced" to the other Library.

I think I sorted it. This is what i did:


Moved the iTunes folder to /Users/Shared/.
Hold Option and launched iTunes.
Selected Choose library - /Users/Shared/
Quit iTunes and logged into the other users account
Hold Option, launched iTunes and select Choose library - /Users/Shared/

I made a playlist in one user, and it showed up on the other user also so changes do show in both which is good.
