Sharing Notes -Help please.

I have a problem with Notes. I can successfully share a Note with other people via Message but when anyone tries to share a Note with me, I get a message saying, "Notes name is private. Persons name shared this note. Please verify that you are allowed to open it". I either have to tap cancel or continue. When I tap continue it wants me to do a verification link with my phone number. But won't let me do it.

Anyone know of a solution?

I'm on a regular iPhone 6s with iOS 10.
