Ask the Goverment!
Hi all,
I was just kicking around with the idea of sharing files between a Mac & PC and so I created a 'Sharing Only Account' in the Users section. I understand I can't see that account in the login screen which is great.
However, in the help section on the Mac, I followed the "setting up a Mac computer to share files withe Windows users' thread and it told me to set up another account with SMB, password etc. Now I can see that user account but not the Sharing Only Account in the login.

But what I wanted to know was, what's the difference between a 'Sharing Only Account' and a Standard User with file sharing enabled? Is it more secure because of this? Will Windows users be able to see and copy files with the S.Only account but not give me files??

Which would you recommend?

I would suggest just allowing file sharing in your regular account. You can control what folders are visible and what who can read and write so it's pretty secure...

I don't get why you would need a sharing only account? Or am I being dumb?
