What are my options here? It is a 16gb iPhone 3g. Would it be cheaper to get a replacement phone than screen repair? Can I get a 8gb replacement if I wanted?

How much is a screen replacement if Apple offers that service?
Everything works still, just looks like shattered glass.

I think it's $199.99 to get it fixed from Apple (I think they just give you a refurbished iPhone)

Some people have fixed it on their own and you probably can find them on this site.

There are web sites that will repair your phone for cheaper than Apple (who probably just swaps it with a refurb.) I don't remember the names, but you can search for them. Closer to $100.

I had my phone in my hand around a camp fire and got bumped from behind and it fell into the fire and the heat of the hot coals instantly shattered the glass. There are also some scorch marks on the back. I'm going to wait a day or so to see if there are any other problems besides the screen.

Hot campfire coals would not likely do that to glass. I am 99% sure the screen hit something in the fire pit.

I'd go for a refurb for the price difference.

You're probably right. It just happened so fast but it's possible.
How do I go about getting a refurb, I'm in canada. My phone seems to be working fine besides the broken glass and slightly melted back.

if your taking it to apple, just got buy a new 3G S? same price, 200 bucks to fix a old phone, or 200 for THE new phone..unless, canada is different..
