Shazam, the popular music recognition service, has updated its iPhone and iPad app so that songs identified with the Music Recognition feature in iOS now sync with the Shazam app.

For those unfamiliar with Shazam, the app is designed to listen for music that's playing, providing a song title and artist for identification purposes. Apple's iPhones and iPads feature built-in Shazam integration with or without the app installed, available through the Music Recognition button in Control Center, and by asking Siri to identify a song that's playing.

Previously it was believed that the sync feature between Music Recognition in Control Center and the Shazam app was limited to devices running the iOS 16 developer beta, but Shazam has now rolled out the feature to the current app for devices running iOS 15.

Also new in this update, Shazam history is now synced across devices. Previously, long pressing the Music Recognition button in Control Center only displayed song identification history for the current device. Going forward however it will show all songs identified from any device signed into the same Apple ID, regardless of whether it was done via the app or Control Center.

After years of ‌‌Siri‌‌ integration, Apple acquired Shazam in 2018, and since iOS 14.2, Apple's mobile devices have had the system-level song recognition function.
In September 2021, Apple announced that the Music Recognition feature in Control Center had surpassed one billion cumulative recognitions across the iPhone and iPad since launching.

I thought shazam has been bought by Apple and was now part of Siri?

Does that mean when I now ask Siri to id it will also save it in the app without me having to tap on the id result?
That’s there most annoying so far, if you dismissed the id it was gone…

it was, but the app and the far quicker to use, button in control centre, didnt talk to each other. So if you opened shazam app and hit shazam it will be listed in your history but not if you just pulled down control centre.

even better its across devices, as often i shazam from my mac.

This feature has worked off and on…wasn’t there an article just a bit ago about this?

EDIT: Oh, never mind, I guess that was about Shazam on iOS 16 specifically

I just wish there was a quick way of identifying a song and adding it into my ‘Songs’. At present there’s a few steps…

I think you could set up a Shortcut that shazams.
Then you assign the shortcut to double or triple tap on the back of the phone.

They are removing part of the Shazam website where they list all the songs I have Shazammed. That is not good.

Now only one more integration pending. Asking Siri which music is playing still stores history in the iTunes app. This too needs to be in Shazam for streamlining music discovery.

I pretty much only use the app because previously, the experience was too disjointed. Having songs buried in iTunes menus or not saved at all defeats the purpose.

I use the accessibility feature to triple-tap the back of the iPhone, which runs a Shazam shortcut. Super-convenient, but doesn't save to the app.

Using the app not only saves them in the Shazam app, but also places any songs in the Apple Music library into a Shazam playlist - super-convenient.

Glad to see this change. Now they just need to make it so a Shazam anywhere is a Shazam everywhere - no matter how you activate the service, it should save to the app.

Is there a “My favorites” or “Shazammed” playlist in Apple Music?.
In Spotify there is a “hearted” automatically created playlist.
Last time I tried Apple Music it was a huge mess to listen only “hearted” songs or the equivalent.

Brilliant, thank you. I have this set up now with three taps on the back and it saves the song!

EDIT: Doesn’t work, pauses video etc. back to the drawing board…

As someone else posted, if you use the Shazam app, any songs recognized are automatically added to an Apple Music playlist called "My Shazam Tracks". However, if you recognize the song from the Shazam control center, the song is NOT added to the My Shazam Tracks playlist. This has to get fixed!!!

Control center Shazam could also recognize song played in airpods but Shazam app could not... is this also fixed ?
And what about Shazam watch app ? Does it recognize and add songs to Apple music ?

Incredible it took years to sync such an obvious feature between services owned by Apple. How messy must it be in those beautifully designed spaceship offices?
Maybe it’s because they all want to work from home and don’t talk to each other 😁

I moved to SoundHound several years ago because it had better music recognition than Shazam. Does anyone know if that's still the case?
