Let me say this I have both apps. I loved SoundHound when the iPhone 4 came out because they updated it with retina display right away. I didn't really like the orange colors that much I'm more of a cooler color guy. Now that Shazam updated I can't help but love it more because it's a cooler color. I just wish they would take that stupid Encore thing off their app because it looks ridiculous. Which one do you like using more?

Shazam is far better than SoundHound in tagging songs. SoundHound sucks IMO. It does have some nice features though, to save a recording and tag the song later etc. It just not as efficient as Shazam is.

Well I actually bought the (Red) version of Shazam last year and while it's generally a good app and identifies most songs the developers seem to have abandoned it and haven't updated it since it's release. Shazam Encore however seems to have received quite a few updates which have added more features which the (Red) version doesn't have, I'm quite miffed about this so have decided to try Soundhound out for a but, I generally like the app but feel the UI is a bit cluttered, I much prefer the clean UI of Shazam, I will continue to use it for a few weeks though and see if it grows on me.

I actually prefer SoundHound than Shazam. I like that SoundHound is actively looking for the song while it is listening to it, whereas Shazam listens for a predetermined time and then finds it.

So chances are that SoundHound finds the song faster than Shazam.
I haven't used Shazam in a few months so maybe their latest version are more advanced, but SoundHound does find the lyrics of the song too.

Do you guys with the iPhone 4 have any problems with shazam encore 3.0 update crashing? When I start to tag a song it's like halfway through recording it seems like. Like the circle starts at halfway and not the beginning.

Have not used shazam since I downloaded soundhound. Works great form me.

I've used Shazam from the beginning, but decided to give Soundhog a try. I'm glad I did because in my experience, Soundhog does a better job tagging songs.

I can't sign in to Twitter anymore using Soundhound. Probably due to the Oauth thing from Twitter?

Oh, and I use Soundhound but have not used Shazam yet. Soundhound is fairly quick and I've never seen it not recognize a song yet.

Ridiculous reply. Simple as that.

+1. He doesn't know what he's talking about.

I have used both since they came out... when SoundHound was called (Midomi I think). Soundhound works much better 80% of the time. Shazam is sometimes better at recognizing certain remixes of songs, sometimes. I have both right next to each other on my first home screen, but I chose SoundHound FTW.

i prefer shazam. it does a good job for me, but yes, the encore text on the new icon sucks so bad!

wish they take it off and call it a good day.

I used to be firmly in the Shazam camp. I had it on my iPod touch before they went to the pay model, and thought I was grandfathered in when I restored my touch's memory to my new iPhone. Not so. I'm not against paying for apps, but the whole process seemed a bit tricky and I heard about the (RED) folks who were left out in the cold with updates. I didn't even know I had limited tagging until I ran out.

I knew I was going to have to pay $5 for a full-blown app, so I decided to throw my cash at SoundHound and have been pretty pleased with it so far.

+1 Soundhound loads and tags much faster than Shazam. Currently using both of the free versions, but will eventually pay for Soundhound. Should have never installed the Shazam update.

soundhound has even ID'd live songs for me (as they were played live)

im happy with it
