Apple-owned Shazam version 15.38 was released earlier today, and the latest update to the music recognition app adds two new Lock Screen widgets.

The latest version of the Shazam app adds Lock Screen widgets for the iPhone and iPad in two different sizes. The smaller widget allows users to open Shazam and identify songs directly from the Lock Screen, while the wider widget displays the last identified song.

Apple acquired Shazam in 2018, and has been gradually bringing the app into closer alignment with ‌Apple Music‌ ever since, offering trials to the streaming service through the app and the ability to sync Shazams directly to Apple Music. The app has surpassed 200 million monthly active users worldwide and over one billion Shazams per month.

Shazam can be downloaded from the App Store for free. It can be accessed through the Control Center on ‌iPhone‌ and ‌iPad‌, through ‌Siri‌ commands, or on the Mac, as well as via widgets. Shazam is also available on Android devices and select features can be accessed on the web.

I'll add the small widget to my lock screen for one reason - the Apple Watch Shazam complication. I use it all the time on my watch and when it is working, it is great. The problem is it disappears from my watch face because the Shazam app on my phone has been offloaded for "lack of use". Apple's integration is too stupid to associate use on the watch with the iPhone app.

You can disable the offloading in Settings (globally for all apps).

I would add this widget to the lock screen, if it was a feature I used constantly. However, it is a bit redundant if you already have it on the Control Center, and without the need of actually having the app. I think I'll keep having Shazam on Control Center, even if it's at a swipe away.

This acquisition has always been weird to me. Maybe it's a widely used feature but I rarely use it. If I ever do I just ask Siri "What song is this?". Easy enough.

Pixel phones have a feature that just constantly and automatically identifies songs, called "Now Playing". Pros and cons to that approach also. I guess Shazam also has the feature as "Auto Shazam".

I think the point is that @siddavis wants offloading on for apps not regularly in use, but that Apple doesn't register use of the AW complication as use of the Shazam app—leading to its deletion, and the deletion of the complication. this is kind of an oofie on Apple's part and worth fixing. I don't have Shazam on my phone anymore—I don't need it when I can access it from the Control Center/via Siri—but I would be highly annoyed with this, as someone who has offloading on for the sake of saving space.

NB, the lock widget doesn't appear automatically after the app update. Be sure to first open the updated app, then do your Lock Screen customisation in order to see the available Shazam widgets.
