Shazam Updated With iMessage Stickers Inspired by Ariana Grande's New Album

Apple today updated the Shazam app with stickers, starting with an exclusive collection inspired by Ariana Grande's new "petal" album.

To send stickers in the Messages app, tap the plus sign in a conversation, select Stickers, tap on the Shazam app icon, and tap on a sticker. You can also send stickers in FaceTime and in other apps where the emoji keyboard is available.

Make sure to update the Shazam app to version 26.14.1 to see the stickers.

They're so hard to find and use... the iMessage interface is so bloated with animations and hard-to-find functions that it's annoying to use. I just use it for its core function which is send and receive messages.

I don't care about the stickers but I have to say that Shazam is one of the very few apps that are like software engineering magic to me. Being able to hear audio in the wild and then match the segment to another in a massive library of music snippets in just a few seconds is so mind blowing.

But I do have kids (12 and 15) who clearly are the audience for this and I can attest: stickers are not used and they hate AI. In short, execs are getting this wrong. But, I'm not an exec so it's easy for me to arm chair QB this. Informal study of 2 subjects. Grain of salt.

As an adult I can confirm I have used AI for 98% non productivity reasons and wonder how you can make such a claim.

I played with stickers for a while when they came out, installed a whole boatload of them.

They’re probably still installed. I just…forgot they were there. 😀

So, like everybody, I never use Stickers. That being said, I have a friend who likes Ariana, and I went to install this through Shazam to send her some Stickers. Opened it and that Sticker set was the first thing I saw. I clicked and... something happened... couldn't tell what. Looked at Stickers in iMessage. No Shazam or Grande. I figured out I had to go click on "edit" and install it. So, you have to install things twice, with absolutely no guidance. I dunno how non-tech nerds like could even figure this out. Going back to never using Stickers.

Corporate America is making it a "productivity tool." It's so much more than that. The OpenAIs of the world are 100% considering the next gen of tech users - certainly more so than those of us with much shorter runways. This has been the playbook of consumer tech all along: target youth, get them acclimated, then when they are at the age of making their own choices, the odds of them continuing with what they grew up knowing is more likely than starting over with something new. Business 101.

I hear you, but one AI system thinks I work on kidneys when I am actually a neuroscientist. A coincidence about a name I share with somebody who died a century ago caused the AI "hallucination" but I can't get the system to unlearn this. Thus, I suppose it depends on what one means by "productivity".

Also, maybe you haven't heard the predictions about teachers being replaced by AI? 🙄
