Hi everyone,
Full disclosure: I’m the developer behind Shelfinder.
Shelfinder is a small macOS utility I’ve been working on that introduces a floating shelf integrated with Finder to make everyday file handling faster and more intuitive.
It allows you to temporarily drop files, folders, images, PDFs, and other assets into a floating shelf while you work, then move or copy them anywhere in Finder using drag-and-drop. This is especially useful when dealing with multiple Finder windows, desktops, or scattered files.
Key features:
The idea behind Shelfinder is simple: reduce friction in common Finder workflows without changing how macOS works.
If you’d like to try it, you can download it here:

I’m happy to answer questions or hear feedback, and I’ll use this thread to post future updates and improvements.

Key features:
- Drag files from Finder into the shelf
- Drop them anywhere in Finder or other apps
- Visual organization in a clean, native macOS UI
- Support for groups of files
- 100% local operation (no cloud, no sync, no tracking)
