State of Denial
I just bought Jaguar, and much to my dismay, upon opening Sherlock 3, I find that the feature I used most often, hard drive searches, is either well hidden, or altogether absent. I know that there is a Finder-based search, but it seems... messier than Sherlock 2. Also, I can't find anything about find-by-content indexing for anything beyond indiviudal folders, something that i found quite valuable? Does anyone know anything about this?

Sherlock 3 is just for internet searches.

Searching your HD is accomplished by going to the File menu in Finder and selecting ...drum roll please...Find (or press Command + F).

It is a much more streamlined search utility.

It went where it belongs: Anywhere but Sherlock!!!!

The old sherlock was clunky and slow. It made you switch from the current mode you were in (the Finder) to find what you were looking for.

I love the new find capabilities. It was what Apple should have done from the start.

Thank God, they finally put the finder where it should be-away from Sherlock.

BTW: I can't believe it actually has some theatre listings from my neighborhood. Good job, Apple!

Finder:
Can now find things

Sherlock:
Solves internet mysteries quickly

Makes perfect sense if you remember MacOS pre Sherlock....

I was a little confused about where indexing was too but I remembered to use the ............HELP file. What you do is ctl + right click on the Mac HD icon, the click "get info" and the indexing feature is there on the get more info section.

ya searching your HD thru sherlock was total crap and i had to resort to unix CLI searches to do so. the new finder search is much better and quite powerful.

actually that was one of finders key features back i system 7 i believe -- the baility to search from the finder..

they replaced the function with sherlock in system 8... the search function in jaguar is almost identical to the search function in 7..

sometimes change is bad..:D .. have fun with jaguar!
