Windows XP user here. Ever since upgrading to iTunes 10, I cannot get "shift+restore" to work to select an alternative ispw file. It always tries to upgrade and restore. Same thing with my 3G, 3GS or 4.

Did Apple delete the shift+restore??? Anyone have any fix for this?

No, shift restore still works in iTunes 10.

Doesn't work on my machine, tried both shift buttons, no dice. Worked great with iTunes 9.x

Does it work on your machine? Are you running XP service pack 2?

Service Pack 3.

My mistake. I'm service pack 3 too.

I tried it again, same thing. Here's the message I get.

It still works, but you have to have your phone in DFU mode. So plug your phone into your computer hold down sleep and home buttons together wait for it to reboot and when the apple logo pops up again release the sleep button and keep holding home until iTunes says it detected a phone in dfu mode. Then do shift+restore in iTunes, should work. If not then I dunno what is going because I just did this like 2 days ago and it worked for me.

Thanks for the reply. I did try from DFU mode and got the message shown above. No matter what I did it wanted to update to the latest version of ispw. which of course I didn't want to do.

Sorry I have no idea then. Is there another computer you can try? Maybe iTunes doesn't play nice with XP anymore. Shrug

^^^...am I the only one having this problem?

Yes.
It worked fine yesterday on my win7.

False.
You don't have to be in dfu for the shift restore to work.

I had recently enabled the built in fingerprint recognition that came with my Toshiba laptop. Upon his suggestion I disabled it and shift restore works perfectly. Who would ever guess those two Programs had any connection??!?

Anyway I'm glad it works and thankful to Yeow. Thanks also to the others who posted here. You learn something new every day!
