I know this is a long ongoing thing (i think).
But is their a way to do the shift select in icon (thumbnail) view. WITHOUT dragging the selector (that ISN'T as good!)

Why did they disable it for icons? it would be perfect for selecting photos (the start and end of an event).

Any hack or app?

thanks

You're not describing reality very precisely there. It does work in Icon View, but only for adding one at a time. To get it to select icons between two non-adjacent ones, there would have to be a method to the madness. Since Icon View can be set to "None" as the Arrange By option, that becomes a little difficult. What are the chances that every user would think the same strategy the programmers would choose would be to their liking?

Why doesn't or can't I work on icons sorted by date? Just like in windows. It would be really useful.

????? You can. That doesn't mean it's going to work the same way as Windows does. It's not Windows. I don't know why Apple chose not to allow a different multi-file selection. You will have to adapt. They aren't changing it tomorrow. Use the two-click "box 'em in" step then shift click for any others that are scattered about. That's the way it works. I don't know of any way to force it to work like Windows.

Ok, thanks. Just was wondering of anyone knew a hack or app.
Most OS X stuff is more efficient than windows, but this type of file selection isn't (it involves 2 steps and using the block selector wich is more difficult to use as you need to click and scroll at the same time).

In Icon View, ⌘-click does the exact same thing as shift-click for me. (OS 10.5.8)

Yes, thats my problem. I was wondering if you could force shift click to work the same in icon view as it does in the other views (shift view), as it would be useful and save me time over box selecting (with mouse) and then amending the select at the beginning and end manually using the shift key.
